Sept. 28th Kinder Blog

Hello Kindergarten! We are almost done with the month of September and our scholars have learned so much. We can see their little brains working everyday. Spalding This week in Spalding, scholars  begin their week with a phonogram assessment. They reviewed all learned phonograms, learned new phonograms, were introduced to action verbs, new vocabulary, declarative sentences and spelling words. Next week, scholars will continue learning new phonograms, continue isolating sounds in words, and be introduced to informative writing.

Math
Kindergarten mathematicians are continuing to master numeral formation, counting sets and creating visual representations of sets:  graphs.  We are beginning to compare and contrast sets by using phrases: more than, less than and equal to. This week we will explore number lines, putting numbers in order, counting and recording the amount in a set and graphing.

Literature
Scholar’s will learn about “How Many Spots A Leopard Has?“  retold by Julius Lester.  

Our poem for this week is “One, Two Buckle My Shoe”

Scholars will continue with the read aloud is Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Florence and Richard Atwater.




History
Our scholars were introduced to one of our early explorers, Christopher Columbus. They learned about his early life and his perseverance to fund his long awaited voyage. 
This week, our scholars will continue to learn about Christopher Columbus, his three ships and who he encountered when he discovered land!  

Science
Our scholars were also introduced to the Three States of Matter in Science and specifically Solid Matter.
This week our scholars will be introduced to the liquid and gas state of matter as well as wrap up our short Three States of Matter Unit. 


*B & M Parents: Our scholars will be working on a Science Matter project on Friday 10/2 and we need a glass baby food jar or a 4oz glass jar with a tight fitting lid.  Please send this with your scholar by Wednesday 09/30.
If you would like to donate more than 1 glass jar, please send this in with your scholar.  Your assistance is great appreciated!
