Oct. 2nd Kinder Blog

Hello Kinder families!  We are officially in October and school is in full swing.  It makes our hearts full seeing all our scholars learning and getting used to new routines.

History/Science

This past week, our scholars discussed Christopher Columbus and his three ships, The Nina, The Pinta and the Santa Maria and who he encountered when he discovered land.
Next week, our scholars will wrap up our Christopher Columbus unit with the last discussion on “Mistakenly Used Terms Pt. 2. Scholars begin a new unit on our continents! The first continent to be discussed is Asia.

In Science, we wrapped up our discussion on the three states of matter with the liquid and gas states. 
Next week, our scholars will be introduced to a short unit on Living and Nonliving and will be able to identify living things and their characteristics.

 

Literature
 
Scholar’s will learn about “Henny Penny" by Paul Galdone

Our poem for this week is “One, Two Buckle My Shoe part 2'  Scholars will recite the whole poem.

              

Scholars will continue with the read aloud is Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Florence and Richard Atwater.






Spalding This week in Spalding, scholars began their week with a phonogram assessment. They reviewed all learned phonograms, learned new phonograms, were introduced to action verbs, new vocabulary, declarative sentences and spelling words Next week, we will be a review week, please congratulate your scholar as they finished their first 26 phonograms.  Parents, please review phonograms with your scholar nightly. Math
Kindergarten mathematicians have counted sets of 10, graphed and worked on numeral formation this week.  We will now wrap up unit three by continuing to investigate 0, count and graph sets, review, and complete a unit assessment on Friday.

Highlights

This week our Kinder scholars learned about liquid, solids, and gas.  We experimented with dry ice and bubble solution and were able to make butter from heavy whipping cream.




Juice in cups..ready for the freezer. 

Students were thrilled by the dry ice demonstration.
