Kinder Blog 17th January

Hello Kinder!  We are officially done with Q2 and well on our way to Q3.  We are at the mid point now.  Our scholars have learned so much and have adapted to so many changes.  We are so proud of them.  This coming week our scholars will be working on their projects and present them on Friday Jan. 22nd.  There will be no school from January 18th-21st in order for them to have time to work on their projects.  They will be back on campus on the 22nd to present their projects.  We can't wait to see their hard work shine through.

Riddle of the week
My wings are used as flippers
So in water I can flow
Sometimes when on land I slide
On my belly in the snow
Who am I?

Last week's answer:
A clock
Spalding: Scholars have learned over 50 new phonograms. This week we went over new words with rules and markings. Next week, we will be reviewing all the previously learned phonograms, words, rules and markings as well as the silent final e jobs.
Math: Capacity was the subject of our final semester one unit.  We will begin semester two with an exciting unit on Comparing Sets. Our unit vocabulary will include:  sets, equal, more than, less than.  Students will investigate and create sets.  We will encourage students to answer questions in complete sentences with the follow up question: How do you know?  History: This past week in History, our scholars learned about the following Native American Regions and their tribe: Plateau, Southwest, Pacific Northwest and the Great Basin.
Our scholars will continue our Native Americans unit and their cultural regions and the primary tribe for that region. Scholars will learn about the similarities and differences between each tribe and region.
Science:  In Science, scholars learned about the coyote and raccoon and what makes them a mammal.
Our scholars will continue our animal unit and will learn about the opossum and deer.
Literature:
This past we finished studying the Momotaro Peach Boy Folktale, and will be moving into Aesop Fables.
This coming week, we will be looking at The Shepherd Boy and the Wolf, and The Grasshopper and the Ant.

Our read out loud right now is Stuart Little.

Highlights:

Virtue of the month for January:  Courage
We always do what we know to be right despite fear, hardship, and opposition.  We resist negative peer pressure, defend our rights and the rights of others, and encourage others to do the same.  Overcome struggle with heart.
